Architecture History & Theory

A chronological survey of the developments of Ancient architecture to Western architecture from the beginning of time to the period of Enlightenment, with consideration of the intellectual, aesthetic, technological, political and economic factors which have influenced the design of buildings. These issues are explored with reference to major contemporary examples and the work and philosophy of significant exponents.

The project requires us to undertake a research analysis process on selected architectural historical building sites through sketching practices, literature review and documentation and present an appropriate sketching, chronology and diagram analysis based on the understanding gained through the analysis procedure
This project requires us to conduct a comparative analysis of two cases between local heritage buildings. This familiarise us with the activities of culmination and production of a research analysis through assemblage, chronological arrangements, diagramming exercises, indices and evaluation of information; composing and organisation of study; assembly of illustration and test; design layout composition; posters and general presentation
Reflection
Lecture
I was able to fully understand and absorb all the informations given by the respective lecturers. The use of Kahoot was particularly useful for me as it helps me retain the informations better through interactive lectures. The format of the lecture slides was simple yet straightforward and easy to read. It does not use the paragraph format when delivering the information to students.

Module Assessments
I really enjoy all the assessments given to us as it helped me in obtaining extra knowledge about that specific type of architecture. At the same time, I have the chance to practice my sketching skills which is helpful for my studio and design communication assignments. The assessments allowed me to do thorough research about each and every topic in the lecture. It has really broaden my prior knowledge about architecture styles.

Projects
In project 1, I have really understood about the different eras of architecture and the history of the buildings. It has showed me how architecture has evolved over the years and decades. Moreover, I have gained some knowledge on the types of building materials used in the buildings and the construction methods. In project 2, it allowed me to know more about Malaysian architecture and how the post independence architecture of Malaysia was heavily influenced by the British architecture styles.

Tutors & Module Coordinator
The tutors are really helpful to me when I was doing my projects. They provided me feedbacks throughout the whole project and guided me in obtaining certain informations regarding the building. The module coordinator was very kind and made sure that everyone was on the right track with our assessments and projects. She frequently updates all the social sites to keep us informed with the latest news or updates.

Online Learning
I cope well with online learning and the materials of the lecture was clear and simple to understand. The usage of multiple online platform to convey the news from the module was really useful as I will get notified immediately. The progress bar on TIMES has been a tracker for me to complete and submit my assignments.
